The 1997 Dodge Avenger is designed and produced based on the Sebring model from Chrysler, a parent company of Dodge. Both the models look almost similar, but differ in taillights and grille. The 1997 Avenger model is offered in two trim versions, the base model and in high performance ES versions.

The 1997 Dodge Avenger ES model comes powered by a 2.5 liter single camshaft V6 engine that produces 163 hp and torque of 170 lb ft. The engine is mated to 4-speed automatic. The other model comes powered by 2.0 liter I-4 engine that generates 140 hp and torque of 130 lb ft and the engine is mated to 5-speed manual transmission.
